Artist Statement

When I create a piece of artwork, I'm on an intuitive journey, coalescing the raw spirit of the natural world with the experiences, emotions, vulnerabilities and wonderments one can only find there. Through texture, form and translucent layering of paint, one can sense the mysteries, movement and competing forces of this world. All aspects of the painting integrate and become a powerful, yet lyrical composition of heart and mind.

Janet Rundquist is a professional, abstract oil painter, living and working in Evergreen, Colorado.

Janet attended the University of Wyoming and received a BA in Art, concentrating in commercial art and painting; as well as a BA in Art Education. Janet continued her art training as a graduate student at the Art Institute of Chicago. She successfully worked as a freelance commercial artist and assistant art gallery manager in Jackson, Wyoming; then spent many years teaching art in the Wyoming public schools. Ever since, she has pursued her love of oil painting.

Janet has shown her artwork in galleries and juried exhibitions throughout Colorado and has won many awards for her works.

Committed to promoting the arts, Janet served on the  board of the Arts Students League of Denver. She developed an art history program for each grade level at Marshdale Elementary School in Evergreen, Colorado. It is a volunteer managed program which still thrives today. For six years, Janet was a member of the board of Center for the Arts Evergreen having served as President and in various other capacities. She also spent several years on the advisory board of Galeria del Sur, a non-profit arts center in Nicaragua educating and promoting indigenous and modern artists.
